Coronavirus and my Podiatry role- an update.

Hope you are all keeping well and safe 👍

I thought I would provide you with an update on what a registered Podiatrist like myself can do during this pandemic.

Coronavirus and my Podiatry role- an update.

✔️ PODIATRY APPOINTMENTS DURING CORONAVIRUS:

Podiatrists are registered allied health care professionals and at the moment are only permitted to treat emergencies during the coronavirus outbreak.

Emergency patients are those who currently have, or who are at high risk of having:

🦶INFECTION

🦶ULCERATION

🦶EXTREME PAIN

🦶INGROWING TOE NAILS.

Only after a detailed consultation will the Podiatrist decide if your feet are at risk and an appointment given. This will be done via a triage questionnaire.

✔️ AS PER GUIDELINES FROM THE COLLEGE OF PODIATRY, ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

During lockdown some people are struggling with their feet. It is very important to restrict the spread of Coronavirus and therefore no routine appointments are available.

If you are offered a routine appointment for long nails (unless these have broken the skin, or causing falls), or hard skin removal you are at risk of being unnecessarily exposed to coronavirus.

Any person offering routine appointments during this time may not be insured to treat you.

✔️ PROTECTION FOR BOTH OF US.

To prevent the spread of coronavirus your podiatrist MUST wear PPE

(Personal protective equipment) disposable aprons, gloves, masks and a face shield or goggles during your emergency appointment and will use appropriately sterilised equipment .

Podiatrists are frontline workers registered with the Health Care Professions Council. HCPC.

Podiatrist are legally protected titles, anyone using the terms chiropody, chiropodist, podiatrist or podiatry without being registered may be committing an offence.

Please do not hesitate to contact for advice or concerns. There is also lots of good advice on my website for care of foot conditions and healthy feet. Find these on my blog and also on my main part of the site.

The most important thing of all is that you are kept safe and me too, I have an elderly parent I support.

Stay safe and keep washing those hands.🙏

Lynn, #Podiatrist and owner

xx
